West Campus High School Recognizes Top 10 Students of the Class of 2023
On May 10, students, staff and family members from the West Campus High School (WCHS) community attended a dinner at the Old San Francisco Steak House to celebrate and honor the top 10 students for the Class of 2023.
Campus administration opened the event, which featured speeches from campus principal John Zamora and Vice Principal Dr. David C. Villalobos, along with each of the Top 10 students.
Jabari Anderson is ranked 10th and plans to attend St. Mary’s University where he will pursue a career in the workforce in relation to Psychology or Sociology. Jabari is the secretary for the Class of 2023 and has been awarded the A/B honor roll throughout his high school career. Jabari will remember the people and the experiences they brought with them when he reflects on his time at West Campus High School.
Diamond Wright is ranked 9th. She will be attending St. Phillips College and then plans to transfer to Spelman College to pursue her major in psychology. Diamond aspires to work in the criminology field as a forensic criminologist. She has been an active student throughout her high school career. Diamond has participated in marksmanship, volleyball, is a member of the cheer team, was a drill team manager, and was an S-1 assistant in JROTC. Furthermore, Diamond is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Delta, and was awarded best overall attitude in her volleyball team. She will always remember the staff at West Campus High School because of their fearless leadership styles and their commitment to leading all students to achieve success.
Savanna Monique Ortega Garcia is ranked 8th. Ortega Garcia has been an active student throughout her time at WCHS. She was part of the Early College Program and earned a total of thirty college hours. She plans on completing her associates degree through Palo Alto College in the summer and will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She is a member of the National Honor Society and received awards for A & B Honor Roll.
Manuel Collazo Montes is ranked 7th. Manuel plans to attend St. Philip's College where he will major in Electrical Trades in order to achieve his aspiration of becoming an electrician. Manuel has been an active student throughout his time at West Campus High School. He is a member of the West Campus High School Mariachi Band and had the opportunity to compete in the 2023 U.I.L. State Mariachi Contest. Furthermore, he is a member of the National Honor Society and has received awards for A&B Honor Roll throughout his high school career. He will remember West Campus as a place where he learned many lessons that helped him grow up to be the responsible person he is today.
Hetu Patel is ranked 6th. He aspires to be a cybersecurity expert and will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He has always been fascinated by computers and technology, and wants to pursue a career that would allow him to protect people and organizations from cyber threats. Hetu will be graduating from West Campus High School with honors, where he was involved in several extracurricular activities. He was Treasurer for the Class of 2023, a member of the National Honor Society, and a participant in the golf team for his senior year. Further, Hetu has also received the A&B honor roll throughout his high school career. One thing he will remember about West Campus High School is the smaller class sizes and all the teachers.
Chastity Lopez is ranked 5th. Chastity is currently thinking about attending either Texas A&M-San Antonio or Palo Alto College. She was part of the Cheer Team her sophomore and junior year. Chastity enjoyed being a member of the Kindness Club. She will remember West Campus as a place where she learned valuable lessons that have helped her become a better person.
Mikayla Wentworth is ranked 4th and has received awards that range from A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, and Best Improved in Math. Mikayla started at West Campus High School in the fall semester of 2022. Her goal is to attend St. Phillips College and major in Sonography to become an ultrasound technician. Mikayla's overall long term goal is to continue her education and obtain a bachelor’s degree.
Gabriella Jimenez is a 3-year honors graduate who is ranked 3rd. Gabriella, who is only 16 years old, intends to study at St. Mary's University with a major in Finance and Risk Management. Her plan is to pursue a career as a Risk Analyst to evaluate financial data, market conditions, and assist potential clients by determining the level of risk involved with various business decisions.
Alyssa Hernandez is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2023. Alyssa will attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She will be majoring in a dual-degree program for her Bachelors Degree in Health Science and Nursing. She will also further her education by attending the Texas Tech School of Nursing in order to pursue her dream career of becoming a travel nurse.
After her retirement from this profession, Alyssa plans to become an anatomy teacher. Alyssa has participated in multiple activities including cheer, tennis, golf, and cross country. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and was the former class president. Alyssa is proud to have earned the honor of Salutatorian for her graduating class of 2023. She will always remember her time as a cheerleader for WCHS and the fun she had cheering with her teammates in front of the crowd.
Nardos Yoseph Shiferaw is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2023. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin (UT), one of Texas's best public universities. She has yet to decide on her specific major, but it will be in the College of natural sciences, and she will also have a plan to do pre-med side by side with her degree. She aspires to succeed in the field of natural science she will pursue in the future and positively impact her life and the people surrounding her. These are highly likely to be in the medical field and/or other fields of natural sciences.
During high school, she was a part of the Kindness Club. Nardos was also a part of several honor societies, including the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics & Science Honor Society. She has also served as a Club President in her freshman year at her former school. In addition, she was also awarded 4 A-honor roll awards during her high school years. She has received medals and recognition certification regarding her academic achievements in the academic areas of math and science. What she remembers the most about WCHS is how the community was yet small but pretty supportive and caring.
The 2023 West Campus High School Commencement Ceremony will be held Thursday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Auditorium.
