South San Antonio High School Recognizes Top 10 Students of the Class of 2023

On May 9, students, staff and family members from the South San Antonio High School (SSAHS) community attended a dinner at Paesanos - Alamo Heights to celebrate and honor the top 10 students of the Class of 2023.

Campus administration opened the event which featured speeches from campus principal Erika Almendarez along with each of the Top 10 students.

Alexia Yahaira Diaz Conde is ranked 10th. She previously attended Roy P. Benavidez Elementary and Robert C. Zamora Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate in Liberal Arts - Cum Laude. She will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to study Biochemistry.

Frida Alejandra Martinez is ranked 9th. She previously attended Frank Madla Elementary and Alan B. Shepard Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate in Liberal Arts - Cum Laude. She will be attending UTSA to study Business and Finance.

Jocelyn Ellery Perez is ranked 8th. She previously attended Hutchins Elementary and Robert C. Zamora Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Science in Biology - Cum Laude. She will be attending Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) to study Biology.

Lesly Pena is ranked 7th. She previously attended Collins Garden Elementary and Dwight Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Science in Biology - Cum Laude. She will be attending Texas A&M University to study Animal Science.

Ciana Victoria Cobos is ranked 6th. She previously attended Price Elementary and Dwight Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Science in Biology - Magna Cum Laude. She will be attending Texas A&M University to study Animal Science.

Giselle Gutierrez Solis is ranked 5th. She previously attended Frank Madla Elementary and Alan B. Shepard Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Liberal Arts - Summa Cum Laude. She will be attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio to study Business.

David Samuel Garcia is ranked 4th. He previously attended Hutchins Elementary and Robert C. Zamora Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for his Associate of Liberal Arts - Summa Cum Laude. He will be attending Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey to study Mechanical Engineering.

Mia Alexandra Vasquez is ranked 3rd. She previously attended Kindred Elementary and Kazen and Dwight Middle Schools and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Science in Biology - Magna Cum Laude. She will be attending the University of Texas at Austin (UT) to study Business.

Angelynna Rose Fonseca-Puente is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2023. She previously attended Hutchins Elementary and Robert C. Zamora Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for her Associate of Liberal Arts - Magna Cum Laude. She will be attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio to study Psychology.

Diego Roman Tellez Guzman is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2023. He previously attended Hutchins Elementary and Robert C. Zamora Middle School and has attained a Distinguished Level of Achievement for his Associate of Science in Biology - Summa Cum Laude. He will attend UTSA to study Pre-Medicine.

The 2023 South San Antonio High School Commencement Ceremony will be held Thursday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Alamodome in Downtown San Antonio.
