Culinary Students win 1st place at Paella Challenge
The culinary team of Savanah Padilla, Sara Sanchez, Brittney Martinez, Victoria Fuentes, Chant Rodriguez were awarded with a trip to New York City for taking first place in the 5th annual HS Paella Challenge at the Pearl Brewery. The award has an estimated value of $10,000. The main sponsors were HEB, Acemart and Chef Johnny Hernandez. The students and Chef Rob Yoas will fly from San Antonio to La Guardia Airport on Thursday, May 19 where they will then take a shuttle to Grand Central to board a train to commute to Poughkeepsie, New York. In Poughkeepsie, They will stay at a Holiday Inn, outside of the Culinary Institute of America Hyde Park Campus for two evenings. They will all be in attendance for the campus open house on May 20 and network with administration and students as well as tour the facilities and observe cooking demos. The group will return to New York City on Saturday, May 21st and have the day to explore the city. On the evening of May 21 they will fly out of La Guardia back to San Antonio.
