Executive Principal

Hello Bobcat family, I’m Erika Marie Almendarez, and I’m the proud Principal of South San Antonio High School. I myself am a product of the San Antonio Public Education System and have earned my Bachelor's in Business Administration and Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas. I am in my 15th year of my academic career and have carried the role of Associate Principal at John Jay High School, then served as the Assistant Principal at Harlan High School.

I am excited, honored and humbled to now serve as the principal of South San Antonio High School and I will work to ensure that your experiences are challenging, purposeful, and enjoyable. My hope is that every student takes advantage of the academic opportunities, the support systems that are in place for them, and that they maximize their high school experience by getting involved in the many extracurricular organizations available on our campus.

Campus safety will remain at the forefront of everything we do in South San so that students can focus on learning and our faculty can focus on teaching. I want to ensure that all students achieve both academically and socially beyond personal expectations, while experiencing an outstanding and enjoyable education.

My favorite part of being an educator is the authentic relationships that I form with our students as well as our staff. Creating a school environment where students and staff feel like they’re part of a "family" is vital to the campus community and culture. Whether it's sharing a moment of celebration with a student or helping a student in need, I love every part of being an educator, and I am grateful to be a part of their journey!

I am an energetic and passionate leader who believes that the educational process is enhanced with connections and partnerships with teachers, families, and relationships with students. I believe in creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable, engaged and are challenged to reach their full potential. Please know that all Bobcats on Barlite Blvd are my priority,  and I strive to ensure that we are successful in all aspects of education. Paws Up!
