Hello! I’m Florinda Castillo and I’m the Principal of Frank Madla Elementary School. I have been at South San Antonio ISD for 24 years and have been an educator for 29 years. I started out as a bilingual teacher in New Mexico for three years, then moved to Odessa, Ector County ISD, for two years as a bilingual teacher. Finally, I ended up at South San for the last  24 years. Here at South San I was a bilingual teacher at Five Palms for nine years, an AP at Madla in 2006 for three years, and then moved as an AP to Price for four years and a principal there for eight years. I was very fortunate to see cohorts of students grow from Pre-K to 5th grade and then come back after high school graduation. Now, I am back at Madla as their new principal.

I love the South San Community and work hard for this community! There are so many dedicated employees in the district that I consider family. Each employee has crossed paths in some way and some form that they are considered my work family.

The South San students are my heart.  In elementary school, I am a movie star every day. When I walk down the halls or enter the cafeteria they all shout, "Hi Ms. Castillo," they make my day everyday. I want to help the community and students be successful and have a bright future.

My game plan for the 2022-2023 school year is to help grow the educators at Madla and get to know the Madla students and community. Last year's Madla leadership team and teachers did an excellent job on bringing up their STAAR Rating, so I want to continue on the same path. Our students deserve to have the best education possible and my goal is for them to have a fun and meaningful education.

In my free time, I love to spend time with my fur babies. I have a grand-dog Rottweiler and two cats. I love to read and spend time with my friends. There are times that I will binge watch Netflix.

I am a hands-on principal and am super excited to serve in the Madla area! I look forward to learning every student's name as well as the community.
