Principal's Message

Principal Florinda Castillo

With over three decades of experience in education, Principal Castillo brings compassion, dedication, and a strong belief in second chances to her role as leader of the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University and went on to complete her Master’s in Educational Administration at Texas A&M University–Kingsville.

A proud member of the South San Antonio Independent School District for the past 29 years, Principal Castillo has devoted her career to creating opportunities for growth and learning—especially for students facing challenges. She believes that while students may make poor choices, they are not bad kids. At the heart of her leadership philosophy is the conviction that everyone deserves a chance.

Under her guidance, DAEP is more than a placement—it’s a place for reflection, growth, and transformation. Principal Castillo focuses on helping students learn from their mistakes, develop communication skills, and grow into respectful, responsible citizens. Her goal is to ensure every student leaves better equipped for success—not just in school, but in life.
