Coping with the Stress of Uncertainty

COVID-19 had understandably caused stress and anxiety throughout our population, but there are ways to take care of one’s mental health in the face of uncertainty.
Feelings of frustration, anger, or sadness can occur when people feel helpless. The worry and uncertainty that people feel about the coronavirus can connect to worries and uncertainties that people feel in other areas of their lives, making the emotions all the more overwhelming. However, there are actions that can be taken to benefit one’s mental health.
Dr. Doreen Marshall, Vice President of Programs for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suggests the following:
- Separate what is in your control from what is not.
- Go outside in nature–even if you are avoiding crowds.
- Stay connected and reach out if you need more support.
