South San Antonio High School College and Career Center (College Center) provides a variety of resources for college and career planning.  The College Center is a place where students can come to obtain information on career planning, learn about military options, discover community colleges and four-year colleges and universities, get information about testing and test preparation, and recieve assistance with financial aid and scholarships.

The college planning process is a partnership between students, parents, counselor and the college coordinator. Clear and honest communication is the key and we encourage parental input that empowers students to take ownership of the college and career planning process. The college coordinator is eager to form supportive relationships with families and will be available for individual meetings upon request. While we support all students, the majority of individual appointments are scheduled for seniors and juniors.  Senior appointments will begin in September and continue into the spring semester, and junior appointments will begin early in February.

Students that find the greatest success in the college and career planning process are those who stay true to their abilities, passions, and interests and therefore are able to create a post-secondary plan that “best fits” them.

A few key points to remember are:

Communication is key. It is of utmost importance that the student, family, and college coordinator collaborate with each other through clear communication to ensure a smooth college search and application process.

You are in control of your future. Students should understand that finding the college or career that “best fits” them is in their hands. Extensive research about colleges and the application process is necessary. Students are responsible for meeting all deadlines submitting all application materials on time.

Be yourself! The college planning process is about you, the student. “College is a not a prize to be won, but rather a match to be made.”
