• SSAISD Head Start Eligibility and Application Information 

     

    SSAISD is currently enrolling

    for the 2020-2021 school year!  

     

    Thank you for your interest in the South San Antonio Head Start. Our program offers educational and family services to eligible 3 & 4-year-olds and their families in South San Antonio Independent School Districts schools. To qualify for our services your child must be age-eligible AND your family must either be income or categorically eligible.

     

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Age:

    SSAISD Head Start Program serves children 3 or 4 years of age

    Income: 

    Head Start services are available if your family meets the Federal Poverty Guidelines and is a resident of Bexar County.

    Categorical

    Head Start eligibility is granted if your family meets any of the following categories

    • The child to be enrolled is in foster care
    • The family is receiving benefits or services through the TANF Program
    • A family member living with and supported by you are receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI)
    • The family is homeless

    A Point Priority assistance is given to children from low-income families and children with  a disability, including a severe
    disability. Income eligibility requirements for Head Start  may be waived, if your child has a current Individualized Education
    Plan (IEP).

     APPLICATIONS


    The recruitment period for the Head Start program year begins in February this year. Priority placement is given to low-income children and children with disabilities, including severe disabilities. Recruitment events and times vary by Head Start Provider. Families who wish to submit an application will be asked to bring specific documentation to determine eligibility.

    The following documents are needed to apply for Head Start services:

    1. Birth Certificate


    2. Current/ Valid Photo ID (parent or guardian registering child). Expired ID's will not be taken.


    3. Up to date Immunization/ Shot Record

     

    4.  Social Security Card for the registring child

     

    5. Proof of Medical Insurance (Medicaid, CHIP, Private Insurance)


    6. Proof of Residency (light, water, a lease under parent/ guardian's name)


    7. Verification of address (if proof of residency is not in the parent's name)


    8. Disability Documentation (IEP from the school district and/or paperwork from a doctor)


    9. Current Income (previous 12 months of income to include: Income Tax 1040, All W2 Forms for all jobs held, last 2 consecutive check stubs, Child Support/ Financial Activity Report showing 12 months of payments, Unemployment, and any other sources of income.


    10. Federal Assistance:

    • TANF Award Letter ( dated within a year of the application date)
    • Supplemental Security Income Award Letter ( dated within a year of the application date)
    • Foster and Kindship Award Letter (dated within a year of the application date)

     

    11. Physical from a physician (up to date or last exam)

     

    12. Dental Exam- (up to date or last exam)
