Texas provides annual academic accountability ratings to its public school districts, charters and schools. The ratings are based on performance on state standardized tests; graduation rates; and college, career, and military readiness outcomes. The ratings examine student achievement, school progress, and whether districts and campuses are closing achievement gaps among various student groups. To learn more, visit TXschools.gov.

The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), formerly known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS), pull together a wide range of information annually on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas. The reports provide extensive information on staff, programs, and demographics for each school and district.

As of December 2023, the TAPR does not include A–F ratings, Distinction Designations, or Special Education Determination Status. The issuance of the A–F ratings under 2023 rule is pending and subject to change.

Texas Education Code (TEC), §39.306 and §39.362, or 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC), §61.1022. TEC, §39.306 requires each district’s board of trustees to publish an annual report that includes the PDF TAPR as well as the information summarized below under “Annual Report”.

Statute, TEC §39.306, requires that each district’s board of trustees hold a public hearing to discuss the district’s annual report. Commissioner rule, TAC §61.1022, indicates this hearing for public discussion of the Texas Academic Performance Report must be held within 90 calendar days of receiving the PDF TAPR. Winter breaks do not count toward the 90 days. Within two weeks following the public meeting, each district must widely publish its annual report, in the same format as it was received from TEA.
